POETRY TERMS- TONE

 Tone
Definition: Any sound that considered to its quality, pitch, strength, source.


Examples: 
 My foot fell asleep
right inside of my shoe
from sitting around
having nothing to do.
It hadn't drank warm milk
nor tried to count sheep;
it just wasn't busy,
and fell right asleep.
The poem above has the tone of humour.

Significance: Tone helps poets to express their attitude, emotion or opinion to something or someone which can easily send the message that poet wanted to convey.

Poetry Terms: METAPHOR

Definition: To compare two unlike things without using comparing words.

Example:
I AM LAS VEGAS
I am Las Vegas growing by the infinite
awake morning by night,
or day.
I am Las Vegas
My hand is the sand.

Significance: Metaphor is important to compare things in a poem, and it also shows something like another without using comparing words. It shows strong connection for the audience to understand easier

Poetry Terms: SIMILE

SIMILE:

Definition: A figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared by comparing words such as like, as or more than.  


Example:
Playing the piano is like
A bird soaring in the
Sky.
When you play the keys it is like
Flying your fingers across the
Piano.
The notes are like
Clouds drifting through the sky.


Significance: The importance of simile that compared two unlike things, to help the audience to understand the poem easier and simile also helps the audience feel fun to read each stanza.
